Our Award-Winning Brewer

Matt has been with COVA since opening its doors in 2020, but is no stranger to the brewing industry. After graduating from Virginia Tech, he started off his craft brewing career at Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He then took a big jump and moved to Hawaii to work at Maui Brewing Company, where he found his knack for using tropical flavors like passionfruit and hibiscus. After moving back to Virginia, he took on the role as head brewer at Coelacanth Brewing in Ghent. While working there he became the first brewer in Hampton Roads to receive the Virginia Green Travel Award. Coelacanth closed its doors after 4 years and that's how Matt found his way to COVA. His brewing style is innovative and puts a spin on those classic beers that everyone loves. Matt incorporates flavors you wouldn't expect and is always trying something new. COVA's brews would not be what they are without the expertise of our head brewer, Matt!
